PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Fox Theatre was
constructed in 1931 in the Art Deco style. The theatre lobby
and balcony areas were modified in later years. The
restoration of the lobby, lobby finishes and the cast iron
ticket booth were made possible through the use of the
original drawings that had been preserved in a local
architect’s office.
The auditorium space
maintained its original chandelier fixtures, sconces and
decorative artwork. The ceiling had been modified for
theater presentation, however, original seats with the
original fabric existed in the building. A reproduction seat
was manufactured and the original fabric was custom-loomed
to duplicate the colors of seat fabric. A sample of the
original carpet taken from the balcony was custom-loomed and
colored so that it complimented the original pattern and
color scheme of the seat fabric. Total seating capacity is
1,214.
All new theatrical
lighting, sound, rigging and soft goods were installed to
create a performing arts center that now produces local
productions and bus-and-truck shows from throughout the
United States. In addition to a modern concession area that
is adjacent to commercial space, an elevator was installed
that allows access to the three floors above the lobby.
These upper floors will be used for future expansion and
theatrical rehearsal space. |
